🗳️ Election results: Brown wins sheriff, Harwood and Goodhart join council

Montgomery County has a new sheriff. Tim Andrew Brown won the special election with 21,327 votes (62.24%) to 12,743 (37.19%) for interim Sheriff Robert G. Page, filling the seat Hank Partin left when he retired in April. Patrick R. Jensen, who ran unopposed, won the special election for commonwealth’s attorney with 26,388 votes. All 29 precincts have reported, and county turnout was 53%, with 36,034 ballots cast by 68,193 registered voters.

In Blacksburg, voters filled two Town Council seats in a special election. Leslie C. Harwood received 7,319 votes (53.80%) and Joel L. Goodhart 5,867 (43.13%), with all 12 town precincts reporting. Both terms run through 2027.

Up the ballot, Sen. Mark Warner won reelection statewide with 2,168,857 votes (61.06%) to 1,373,643 (38.67%) for Bert Mizusawa, and carried Montgomery County 21,749 to 13,969. Rep. Ben Hammond scored eight of Tech’s first 15 points and finished with a career-high seven steals, one short of the program record.

Jaylen Curry scored 19 in his Virginia Tech debut, 15 of them in the first half, when he made three of his first five 3-pointers. The Hokies went 13-for-28 from 3-point range and had 20 assists, and freshman Solomon Davis scored his first college points on a two-handed dunk late in the game.

A word from our sponsor…

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.

Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.

The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.
