Pandapas Pond: an easy, wheelchair-accessible 1-mile loop around a pond in the Jefferson National Forest, about 3 miles west of town on US 460. Free.
Huckleberry Trail: a paved trail that starts downtown on Miller St by the library and runs to Christiansburg. Walk it, bike it, bring the dog on a leash.
Cascades Falls: a 4-mile loop to a 66-foot waterfall near Pembroke. It's the best half-day hike in the area.
Dragon's Tooth and McAfee Knob: full-day hikes on the Appalachian Trail toward Roanoke.

Blacksburg Farmers Market, Market Square Park downtown: Saturdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and Wednesdays 2–6 p.m. in season (April–October). A vintage market runs the second Sunday of the month, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
The Drillfield and the Duck Pond: the classic Virginia Tech walk.
Hahn Horticulture Garden: free gardens on campus, open dawn to dusk.
Historic Smithfield: the 18th-century homestead next to campus. Check their site for tour days.
16 Squares walking tour: a free guided walk through downtown's original 16 blocks, every other Thursday from the Alexander Black House, 204 Draper Rd SW. RSVP ahead.
Blacksburg Museum (Alexander Black House): local history, plus talks and small concerts.
